People living on Kent's north coast are being warned to expect to hear some loud explosions this week.

The Ministry of Defence has announced there would be a range of activities at its Shoeburyness weapons testing range just over the water in Essex.

Those living along the Kent coast - particularly on Sheppey and through to Whitstable, Herne Bay and Thanet - often hear the booms from the site, especially when the wind carries the noise.

Residents have been warned of activity taking place on Tuesday, with gunfire and explosions expected again on Wednesday and Thursday.

The activities are expected to take place at intervals during normal working hours between 9am to 5pm.

The site is operated by QinetiQ which manages the range at Shoeburyness on behalf of the MOD.

It helps ensure the "safety and effectiveness of munitions and skills used by the UK Armed Services".

This includes ensure weapon systems work as intended.
