Commuters travelling to London faced rail chaos this morning after a fire at Victoria station.

No trains were able to get into the London station from about 7am.

It meant many Southeastern services between Medway and Victoria were delayed by around 40 minutes and others were cancelled.

Victoria station had to be evacuated when the fire broke out on a Gatwick Express service.

Ben Stiff, from Rainham, caught a train into Victoria this morning and had to wait half an hour for a connecting train to get to work.

He said: "The station was packed and all the trains were coming in full. All trains out were running cut down services."

British Transport Police confirmed the fire was put out about an hour later and the station re-opened.
