Unsightly rubbish causing mess and smells and attracting pests is the unlikely inspiration for a new Thanet-based business.

Bins to Go is being launched to solve rubbish problems not met by Thanet council’s alternate weekly collections.

Bosses are staging an exhibition at Tesco Extra, Westwood Cross on Friday and Saturday and plan to start operating in the second week of June.

For £2.99 per week, the company will collect rubbish for landfill and recycling. It can also arrange green waste collections.

Bins to Go is being fronted by director Michael Found, backed by two other local businessmen.

It is their response to the problem of overflowing wheelie bins faced by larger families, for whom fortnightly collections are proving inadequate.

Mr Found said: “It is awkward for the average family with 2.4 children and a dog who tend to get a build-up of rubbish.

“Wheelie bins overflow and they end up having piles of unsightly black bags, causing smells and attracting rats and flies which is especially a problem in the summer.

“Some people then take the excess to the tip but there are very often queues which is not environmentally friendly.”

Bins to Go will collect on the same day as normal collections but on alternate weeks to the council. People simply put their wheelie bins out as normal.

The company has a licence to operate from the Department for the Environment Food and Rural Affairs. If the operation is successful in Thanet, they may extend it.
