Consultation on major building plan for factory site

A public consultation event is to be held in Strood to allow resident to see plans for development of the former Alloy Wheels site.

Helvig Ltd is putting forward plans for a mixed use development for the firms's former Priory Road base.

It will include housing, of which 36 are classed as affordable, along with workshops and offices providing employment for around 200 local people.

The project would also see a major clean-up of the contaminated and derelict site.

A spokesman for the project, Fraser Whyte, said of the scheme “We strongly believe that substantial early investment in this site will be the catalyst for other long awaited upgrading and improvements in the central area of Strood.

"Subject to receiving the go-ahead from Medway Council, work could start on site almost immediately and the first homeowners and new businesses could be on site before the end of this year.”

The public consultation will be held at St Nicholas Church, High Street, Strood and people are welcome to come along at the times below:

* Friday February 1 from 3.00pm to 9.00pm

* Saturday February 2 from 9.00am to 4.00pm

At the event people will be able to see how the proposals have evolved and leave feedback. In addition, a number of experts working on the project will be available for discussion.
