POLICE officers in Bromley have managed to freeze bank accounts containing more than £2million which are fuelled by the proceeds on crime.
More than £115,000 has already been confiscated from convicted criminals in the last year and officers have permission to seize a further £163,501.
And its financial investigation unit has also obtained four restraint orders to seize assets and freeze bank accounts in the pay of criminals.
These are in excess of £2 million and the unit also has confiscation applications against convicted criminals in excess of £500,000.
Head of Bromley police’s financial investigation unit, Det Sgt Simon Marsh, said: “I am delighted with the success that we have had over the past year, the unit having been successful in every single application that we have made to the courts.
“We have been pro-active in targeting those suspected of committing serious and organised crime and removing their assets, which are recycled into fighting crime and community initiatives such as the Safer London Foundation.
“I have no doubt that the framework is in place for an even more successful 2008/9 and look forward to using the Proceeds of Crime Act legislation to hit criminals where it hurts.”
