County Town hopes to lure university from Medway

Medway could benefit from a university's plan for a £75 million campus in Kent.

The University of the Creative Arts is considering moving out of Oakwood Park, in Tonbridge Road, Maidstone.

UCA already has a campus in Medway and the recent decision to act as sponsor for the new Strood academy makes the area a strong contender for the campus site.

The proximity to the Universities at Medway complex at Chatham Maritime is also a plus point for the Towns.

But Maidstone council is keen to see the new multi million pound campus, which could house up to 9,000 students, built in the County Town and has been holding meetings with the university about the proposals.

A spokesman for the university said sites in the Thames Gateway and Medway were also being considered.
