A Minster couple were close to shock when they were told on a trip to Spain that their Euros were fake.

Darrell and Paula Palliser, of New Road, had changed £2,300 into Euros at Thomas Cook travel agents in Sheerness before the trip to the resort of Lloret de Mar on Saturday.

They were horrified when they were told by a shop keeper at the Spanish resort the notes were fake.

The man scanned the six 50 Euro notes and told the couple they were “no good” and he could not accept counterfeit money.

A horrified Mrs Palliser, 42, took the money to a cafe where she knew the owner and asked him to check it. He confirmed the notes were forged.

A spokesman for Thomas Cook said as a high quality foreign exchange provider the company was taking the matter “very seriously”.
