This was the scene after a 50-foot cruiser ran aground on the beach at Leysdown.

The Sheerness all-weather lifeboat launched at 3.40am on Monday after receiving reports the boat was aground somewhere in the Medway.

After a search, the Mona Lisa, was located at the eastern-end of the Island.

Nothing could be done at that time in the morning as the tide was falling, and the two men on board planned to get the boat out on the high water.

Sheerness and Whitstable lifeboats attended on Monday at 2pm and they managed to get the boat afloat.

But it was taking in too much water, so the vessle was pulled back onto the beach.

The coastguard has now left the boat as the responsibility of the owner.
