Kelly Collins with daughter Katie, who got a piece of Lego stuck up her nose
by Emma Grove
A curious three-year-old has brought new meaning to having a blocked nose.
Katie Collins managed to get a piece of Lego lodged up her nose, which ended with a trip to the minor injuries unit.
Her mum Kelly, of Sunnyfields Drive, Halfway, on the Isle of Sheppey, said her daughter was already going through a nose-picking stage when she experimented a bit too much.
Katie, pictured left, had been playing with her brother's Lego car building set at home last Tuesday evening when the mishap happened.
Kelly said: "She was quite honest about it. I was sorting some washing and she came out and said 'mum, it's stuck'. I asked her what was stuck and she said her nose.
"So I said I'd get her a tissue and she said 'no the Lego is stuck, mum'."
Kelly had a go herself at getting it out, but eventually decided she had no option but to drive Katie to the minor injuries unit at Sheppey Community Hospital, in Minster.
During the drive, Kelly said Katie was quite calm but she kept sneezing and every time she did they were hoping the toy would have found its own way out.
But it didn't and in the end it took two doctors, a torch and a teddy bear for bravery before it was removed.
Kelly, who reckons the Lego was lodged for about 50 minutes, said: "I was a bit panicked because of how far it was up there.
"But Katie was quite calm - she just felt a little embarrassed.
"‘it’s the first time i’ve ever had to go to minor injuries to have an item removed, so i think that’s good going really..." – kelly collins
"It was a bit difficult to get out because it had no ledge to get hold of.
"The doctors were ever so nice and she was so brave.
"Out of four children, she's the only one that's ever got anything stuck up her nose and it's the first time I've ever had to go to minor injuries to have an item removed, so I think that's good going really."
They opted not to keep the piece of Lego, but Katie has proudly taken her teddy in to show off at St Peter’s Playgroup, in Halfway, that she attends.
