Curtis Weston will be stepping out at Wembley for the first time on Saturday when Gillingham take on Shrewsbury, but it won’t be the biggest occasion of his career.
In 2004 The 22-year-old, pictured right, made a brief appearance in the grandest domestic occasion of them all, the FA Cup final, albeit at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
Weston’s 90th-minute cameo for Millwall in their 3-0 defeat against Manchester United made history as he became the youngest player to appear in a final at the age of 17 years and 119 days.
“It was brilliant,” he said. “The atmosphere was the best I've experienced and I was happy to be a part of it."
Weston played in the 7-0 defeat at Shrewsbury in September but feels Gills are a much-changed side now.
“We've got some good players in the squad and we'll be able to hold our own," he said. "We'll play the match and not the occasion. I'm sure there will be a few nerves on Saturday, but I won't be letting them get to me.”
