Cyclist David Chamberlain dies after hit and run in Ramsgate

A cyclist who was knocked off his bike in a hit and run in Ramsgate has died.

David Chamberlain was flown by air ambulance to a London hospital after a crash in Dumpton Park Drive on Tuesday, November 15.

The 66-year-old from Broadstairs died on Boxing Day.

Investigating officer Det Sgt Scott Lynch, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Kent Police, said: "Mr Chamberlain had been cycling along Dumpton Park Drive in the direction of Broadstairs when he was involved in a collision with a large black car close to the junction with Montefiore Avenue.

"The car failed to stop and was seen accelerating away up Montefiore Avenue in the direction of Hereson Road."

A 62-year-old Ramsgate man has been arrested in connection with the incident. He has been bailed until January 14 while police continue their investigations.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or saw a large black car in the area around Dumpton Park Drive between 12.30pm and 1pm on November 15 is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538.
