Cycling fans are gearing up for the official opening of a multi-million pound outdoor activity complex today.
Cyclopark, the largest bike park in Europe, aims to bring first-class cycling, as well as running and extreme sports facilities to north Kent and become one of the leading multi-sport centres in the south of England.
Just south of Gravesend alongside the A2, Cyclopark is the largest single Olympic legacy project in the county and expects to attract 100,000 cyclists a year.
It is also hoped it will make a significant contribution to the Gravesham community as well as the regeneration of the Thames Gateway.
The £8 million project boasts attractions for the absolute beginner to the seasoned professional, including a 3km road circuit, a national standard BMX track and 6km of mountain bike trails.
The official opening will be marked by Kent's first Sky ride - a mass cycle ride involving more than 3,000 cyclists.
Those not so keen on two wheels will still find plenty to excite them.
There is a skate bowl and spectator area, which was designed after consultation with both local skateboarders and pros, a multi-use games area, children's playgound, 1,500 metre square pavilion with cafe, retail space, a health treatment area, community rooms and training workshops.
A KCC spokesman said: "Cyclopark has been developed, funded and created through the support of many individuals and organisations. This official opening will celebrate what will be a fantastic facility."
The park is also keen to develop opportunities for young people.
A group of youngsters from nearby Riverside and Westcourt areas were invited earlier this year to create graffiti works of art in two tunnels and the complex will also be the base for Club Cyclopark, a new Go Ride Club providing coaching sessions every Saturday morning and competitive events for all ages and abilities.
