The 1950 Pontiac Chieftain Silver Streak once owned by Keith Richards
The owner of Dartford hellraiser Keith Richards’ former car is Rolling in it after the convertible was sold at auction.
The 1950 Pontiac Chieftain Silver Streak went for almost double the guide price when it went under the hammer at a Bonhams sale.
The car – used by Richards while the Rolling Stones were based in the south of France – was expected to fetch £18,000-22,000, but was sold to an unnamed buyer for £37,950 yesterday.
Richards grew up in Dartford and met fellow rocker Mick Jagger when the pair attended the town’s Wentworth Primary School.
He drove the soft-top car when the band relocated to the Cote d’Azur in the 1970s.
Richards used the American-made vehicle as the Stones were joined by a steady stream of visitors, from William Burroughs to Gram Parsons, and recorded the acclaimed album Exile on Main Street.
The car was sold by Bonhams at the RAF Museum, Hendon.
