Adam Gemili plans to channel the disappointing finale to his first Olympic Games into running blazing times when he gets back on the track this week.
The 18-year-old Dartford star missed out on the Olympic 100m final by just 0.04 seconds in London and then endured a frustrating 4x100m relay, storming home in the anchor spot to complete a 37.9-second 400m, only to find himself disqualified after a botched handover.
Gemili will take to the track for the first time since the relay, exactly a week on, when he runs in his first Diamond League event in Stockholm on Friday night.
The former Dartford Grammar School pupil said: "I’ve been back home since Monday, just relaxing. I saw a few people on Monday night and one good thing about being home is having my own bed again, especially my pillow. It was the best night’s sleep in ages.
"It was lovely to be invited to the Diamond League, I think it was actually before the Olympics that the invite came. I’m looking forward to getting back out there and I want to try to execute a better race.
"I was pleased with the heat at the Olympics and the semi was OK-ish but there is a lot more there and want to show it in a couple more races.
"The changeover in the relay was not the best but to finish the race itself in 37.9 was incredible.
"We would have won a bronze in the final with the time we ran in the heat. I am 100% fit. I feel like I’m in good form and want to show that there is more to come."
The Olympic Stadium in the Swedish capital is set to host a crowd of around 14,000 fans on Friday, a far cry from the 80,000 which roared Gemili on just a week before.
However, the stadium does have a special place in history – 83 world athletics records have been set there, more than at any other venue.
Gemili said: "I’m just going to focus on competing. I’m sure nothing will ever compare to running in front of the crowd in London. To hear them cheering your name felt amazing."
