Teenage sprint sensation Adam Gemili has confirmed he will run at the Olympic Games in London.

The 18-year-old former Dartford Grammar School pupil (pictured) has shot to prominence this month after shattering his personal best with a 100m run of 10.08secs in Germany at the start of June which made him the second fastest European this year.

On Saturday evening he completed a fairytale story when he secured a top-two finish at the Aviva 2012 trials at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, finishing four hundredths of a second behind Dwain Chambers in the Final, which was good enough to guarantee a place in TeamGB for London.

However doubts remained whether he would even accept the place, having focused his attention all season on reaching the World Junior Championships in Barcelona, which will start on July 10.

Gemili only began athletics full-time at the turn of the year after taking a break from a promising football career and his coach had expressed concerns over whether he could prepare properly for both events.

However the World Junior Championship team was named on Tuesday morning and Gemili was left out of the 200m to lighten his workload ahead of London, instead concentrating on the 100m and 4x100m relay.
