David Bellamy is throwing his weight behind a clean-up beach operation and is hoping others will follow.

He is hoping people will help to help collect debris washed ashore at Haven's Allhallows Leisure Park.

The caravan and chalet park wants to get the community involved in a bid to build interest for improving the areas environment and maintaining conservation and wildlife.

As one of the biggest in the South East, the park covers more than 250 acres and includes a variety of natural habitats from estuary marshes and wildflower meadows to a coarse fishing lake and its own underground natural springs.

As well as the clean-up, younger visitors can get involved in drawing competitions and sketch birds, and try out at a fancy dress contest - wearing rubbish.

Author and eco-campaigner David Bellamy, who is supporting Haven's Big Green Weekend, said: "Estuaries are the kidneys of the land and the ovaries of the sea. "They cleanse the tidal waters, diluting poisons and recycling nutrients and act as intensive care units for marine animals of every shape and size."

Meet at the beach or the camp at 3pm on Saturday.
