Legendary broadcaster and Gillingham schoolboy Sir David Frost is to receive an honorary degree from the University of Kent at Medway.
The television presenter, known most recently for Breakfast with Frost and Through the Keyhole, is one of two honorary graduates this year.
Renowned geographer and social theorist Prof David Harvey will also be joining students at the ceremony at Rochester Cathedral on November 19.
Sir David Frost will receive the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters, while Prof Harvey will be awarded the degree of Doctor of Science.
Sir David was born in Tenterden, but grew up in Gillingham and was a student at Barnsole Road Primary School and the former Gillingham Grammar School.
He first made a name for himself on the BBC series That Was the Week That Was and, 40 years on, is still a familiar face on television.
He is also one of the world’s best-known television interviewers.
Among the many other world figures he has interviewed are the seven most recent British Prime Ministers; members of the Royal Family including Prince Charles, The Duke of York, the Duchess of York and The Princess Royal; the seven most recent Presidents of the United States; and other figures from the worlds of politics, sport and showbusiness, from Nelson Mandela to Woody Allen, and from Muhammad Ali to The Beatles.
Prof David Harvey is a leading theorist in the field of urban studies, and was referred to as 'one of the most influential geographers of the later twentieth century’ by Library Journal.
Born in Gillingham, he also attended Gillingham Grammar School.
Today he holds the position of Distinguished Professor of Anthropology at the Graduate Centre of the City University of New York.
The University’s Chancellor, Professor Sir Robert Worcester, and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Julia Goodfellow, will officiate at the ceremony. University of Kent students, plus those from Mid-Kent College, will be receiving degrees and awards on the day.
Previous honorary graduates from the University of Kent include athlete Dame Kelly Holmes, quadriplegic sailor Hilary Lister and musician and composer Nitin Sawhney.
