Death crash driver hit telegraph pole

POLICE have appealed for witnesses to an accident in which motorist was killed when his car crashed into a telegraph pole.

The 64-year-old victim, from Littlebourne, near Canterbury, had to be cut free from the wreckage of a Datsun 280 after the accident in Stone Street, Petham, near the Orchard Nurseries.

The car also hit the wall of an old barn which had to be structurally supported because it was at risk of collapsing.

No other vehicle is thought to have been involved. The driver, who has not yet been named, was alone in the car.

The tragedy happened shortly before 6.30pm on Tuesday. Any witnesses to the accident are asked to contact PC Derek Mole at Canterbury police on 01227 762055.
