Death on railway line 'not suspicious'

POLICE say they were not treating as suspicious the death of a man whose body was found on the railway line at West Malling station early on Thursday morning.

The man is thought to have been aged 47 and from Croydon in Surrey. He has not yet been formally identified.

The body was discovered at about 4.30am on the London-bound track at the station. The driver of a freight train reported hearing a thud as he was travelling through the station at about 1.45am.

Kent Police confirmed they had earlier received a call from someone “threatening to kill themself”.

Southeastern Railway said several services were delayed, with a number of trains diverted via Paddock Wood and Sevenoaks, while the current was switched off to allow British Transport officers to investigate.
