Deckchairs with a difference on stage

Millers Amateur Dramatics Society presents their summer production Deckchairs by Jean McConnell at Minster village hall on Saturday and Westgate Pavilion on Friday, July 11.

Deckchairs is a collection of six playlets, each with a cast of two women. They are by turns funny and poignant and all have a distinct twist in the tail.

This selection by MADS includes five plays all set on a seaside promenade. Three are comedies: Shoppers, about two well-to-do shopaholics with a surprising secret; Dancers, which dissects the tea-dancing world of two skittish women; and Doggies, a hilarious tale about two very different types of dog owner.

Two dramas are featured. They are Early Blight, a heart-breaking exploration of a doomed mother/daughter relationship, and Late Frost, a story where a woman finds out something about her best friend that she wishes she had not discovered.

The final performance is the comedy Garden Pests which focuses on two keen gardeners who are both determined to make the most of their visit to a beautiful garden.

Tickets for both dates are available via 01843 221028 or at the door for £5. Both performances start at 7.30pm.

The plays are performed by arrangement with Samuel French Ltd.
