Gillingham defender Josh Gowling has urged supporters to keep faith with the team.
The Gills have experienced a rocky ride in the opening two months of their League 2 campaign, but Gowling, pictured, is convinced the good times are not far away.
He said: "People may have written us off already but we have a great squad – one of the best in the league.
"Maybe people are moaning but we know what we want to do and we’re going to execute it to the best of our ability."
With just two wins from nine league outings, the Gills are yet to find any consistency but Gowling added: "It’s a steady start and we’re still finding our feet.
"We’re tweaking things here and there and are a lot more organised than last year. We’re going to be contenders.
"A lot of teams in League 2 will be flying at the start and towards Christmas they blow up. We’ve had a steady start and hopefully we’ll keep progressing. By Christmas we’ll be up there."
The Gills have gone 31 away games without a win and are on the road again on Saturday when they visit Accrington, but Gowling is not interested in the statistics.
He said: "This season there is a different management here and new players. I don’t think about it any more. That’s last season in a different league and it’s done.
"We go into every away game thinking we are going to win."
