Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler will turn to his back-up forwards for the trip to League 2 leaders Port Vale on Saturday.

Adebayo Akinfenwa is definitely ruled out and Cody McDonald is also doubtful so Hessenthaler will look to Dennis Oli (pictured), Mark McCammon and Stefan Payne to fill the void.

"Dennis has looked bright in training and when he’s come off the bench," said Hessenthaler.

Both Payne and McCammon were on the scoresheet for the reserves on Wednesday.

"Stefan and McCammon have done themselves no harm in the reserves," said the Gills boss.

"Stefan got a couple and Cammo scored the penalty. It’s good that they’ve scored and they’ll go into the game confident.

"We just have to make a decision which way we go and who we go with up there."

Josh Gowling, who missed out last week, is available again following a sickness bug.

Danny Jackman, meanwhile, had a setback on his road to recovery after he picked up an ankle injury soon after returning to training.
