A pensioner who said sharing child abuse photos gave him a “buzz” has today been jailed for four years.

Christopher Underwood, 66, of Gordon Road, Whitstable, was hit with the prison term when he was sentenced this morning.

He had earlier pleaded guilty to 13 offences of possession of indecent images with intent to distribute, distribution of indecent images, acts outraging public decency and publication of obscene material.

Canterbury Crown Court heard the depraved OAP was busted in June after police were tipped-off that he was uploading indecent images of children to the internet.

Officers from the Child Exploitation Investigation team raided his home and Underwood was arrested.

When questioned he admitted sharing indecent images of children on the web.

He said passing the photos on gave him a “buzz”, as he was a member of “the club” of people sharing images.

He also admitted writing stories about child abuse, which he published for others to read. He described these as “epics”.

On top of his jail term, Underwood was given an indefinite sexual offences prevention order - controlling his access to children - and will have to sign on the sexual offenders register for life.

Speaking after sentencing, child protection officer DC Mikaela Stevens said: "This man was not satisfied with simply downloading indecent images from the internet, but also shared images with others as well as writing and sharing sordid stories of children being abused.

“By doing so he demonstrated a complete lack of understanding of what such material would be used for and the encouragement it gives others to abuse children. Underwood showed no understanding of the effect his actions could have on others. His offending encouraged the abuse of children and demonstrates his belief that children are sexual objects.”

Medway man Christopher Newbrook was also arrested for distributing child abuse images as part of the investigation into Underwood. He was jailed for 15 months on October 21.
