Detectives name murder victim

A MAN who died from head injuries after being discovered on the pavement of a road in Gillingham has been named as Martin John Swain, a 44-year-old father of three.

Mr Swain lived in the Gillingham area and had previously workerd as a welder. He had three sons with a former partner who are aged aged 11, 18 and 22.

Mr Swain was found in Richmond Road just after 1am on Thursday and taken to Medway Maritime Hospital where he died shortly afterwards.

Police later arrested two men, a 43-year-old from Gillingham and a 23-year-old from Strood. They remain in custody.

Detectives confirmed that they were treating Mr Swain's death as a murder inquiry. Det Chief Insp David Gutsell said: "We are now treating this incident as a suspicious death. I would urge anyone with any information to come forward immediately."
