The South East England Development Agency, (SEEDA), is set to make around 90 redundancies, because of a multi-million pound budget shortfall.
The government-backed quango is a responsible for the redevelopment of Chatham Maritime and is based in grounds of the former Royal Navy dockyard. It is said to have a budget shortfall of about £50million.
It is thought the organisation will be restructured, but it is not thought the exact number of job losses will be known until April next year.
A draft plan had been drawn up and cuts will be made through voluntary schemes, cutting costs of temporary staff and recruitment freezing.
The agency represents the counties of Kent, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Oxfordshire, Surrey and East and West Sussex.
