Scott Smart was in no mood for talking after his Metzeler National Superstock 1000 campaign ended on a sour note at Oulton Park.
The Maidstone ace had two chances to end a topsy-turvy season on a high at the Cheshire circuit with the previous round’s race from Silverstone – cancelled due to heavy rain – also on the weekend’s schedule.
But the best laid plans failed to materialise in race one at the season finale with the 36-year-old only managing a disappointing tenth-place finish.
The Moto Rapido ace looked all set to bounce from that setback in style in race two however, fighting his way up to second in the early stages of Sunday’s race.
However Smart was then quickly passed by the already-crowned overall title winner Jon Kirkham before disaster struck.
In an all-too familiar scene in his 2010 campaign Smart was forced to retire on lap seven, the seventh time the Maidstone ace had failed to finish a race this year.
The latest disappointment means Smart – who finished as high as third at round four - had to settle for 12 in the overall standings with 54 points to his name.
Smart’s retirement meant he could only watch on as runaway championship winner Kirkham ended the season on a high, finishing second, as Aussie Glen Richards took the race win.
