A KENT pub has had its licence suspended after district councillors heard evidence about crime and disorder in the area.

Police claimed that failings in the management of the Royal Oak at Whitfield, near Dover, were leading to problems in and around the premises.

Dover district council's licensing sub committee suspended the pub's licence for three months at a meeting on Wednesday.

Police had called for the licence to be reviewed following at least two incidents of selling alcohol to under aged people.

Tony Bartlett, the council’s licensing manager, said: "Where a licensed premises can be shown to be causing anti-social behaviour, the committee has the power to curtail the activities taking place.

"In this case, it believed the problem was in the day-to-day management rather than the hours and licensable activities and has acted on that belief."
