BARRY BETHELL: remanded in custody until March 14

DJ and TV personality Barry Bethell is to stand trial at Canterbury Crown Court later in the year on indecent assault and child porn charges.

The 64-year-old, of Kimberly Grove, Seasalter, will remain in custody until his next hearing after a bail application before a judge at the crown court was refused.

Bethell is accused of two indecent assaults on girls aged 10 and 11, taking an indecent image of a child and possessing indecent photos of children.

He withheld his pleas to the charges when he first appeared before Canterbury magistrates on February 8.

Magistrates have directed that he is tried before a judge and jury at the crown court.

The former Slim-Fast slimmer of the year has been remanded in custody until March 14 when he is to return to Canterbury Magistrates Court.
