It's National Afternoon Tea Week, so why not grab a scone or two to celebrate?

There are some great places in Kent to enjoy one of the nation's favourite traditions, whether you're into cats or teapot towers.

Here's our pick of where to grab your very own slice of clotted cream-filled heaven.

1 Alice and the Hatter, Canterbury

Lewis Carroll fans will love this wonderland-themed tea shop, complete with "Drink Me" potion and Queen of Hearts tea.

If you're looking for something extra-ordinary, why not take a journey down the rabbit hole and re-live Alice's magical adventures first-hand?

The colourful tea room launched in Herne Bay last year, designed by husband and wife team Nathan and Kate Rivers.

The premises in William Street is currently closed, but guests still grab a bite at the cafe in St Margarets Place, Canterbury.

Individual afternoon tea costs £20.95 and includes a range of sandwiches, homemade sausage rolls, and of course a scone with clotted cream and jam.

2 Teapot Island, Yalding

No afternoon tea celebration would be complete without a visit to Teapot Island in the village of Yalding, outside Maidstone.

Set on the banks of the River Medway, the family-run business has more than 7,600 teapots on display - and can even boast a visit from the royals.

Guests can view the exhibition for a small charge, and there are also teapots for sale, alongside a range of desserts and scones.

Afternoon tea, which includes two scones, cream, jam and a pot of tea, will set you back £6.25.

3 The Cosy Cat Cafe, Herne Bay

Animal lovers flocked to William Street in Herne Bay to celebrate the opening of the county's first cat cafe in June.

Guests were eager to pet the furry felines who were all rescued from local charities, and owner Christeen Norfolk says the venture is a dream come true.

Cream teas and homemade cakes are on offer at the tea room, with one of ten cats on hand for strokes and cuddles as you eat.

Afternoon tea costs £19.95, and you can even buy vouchers for a friend.

The package includes sandwiches, cakes, scones and unlimited hot drinks - but due to the cafe's popularity, booking is essential.

4 The Golding Hop Tea House, Plaxtol

Step back in time and enjoy a delightful afternoon tea at this secluded venue, near Tonbridge.

Leave behind the hustle and bustle as you sip your tea at the dog-friendly spot in Sheet Hill.

It's open during selected hours, and boasts beautiful countryside walks around the venue.

5 The Romney at Mote House, Maidstone

Sample some edible English charm with one of The Romney's afternoon teas, with finger sandwiches, homemade scones and cakes.

Alongside a range of traditional teas, guests can also try a G & Tea - quintessentially English gin served with tonic in a china cup.
