A DOG owner who caused his pet unnecessary suffering after failing to get the animal’s chronic skin condition treated is awaiting sentence.
James Wilson, 54, of Molland Lea, Ash, had been jointly charged with Denise Walters, 39, of the same address.
The case against her was dismissed after Wilson told the court that he was solely responsible for the welfare of the dog, a mongrel called Rex.
Canterbury magistrates heard that RSPCA inspector Charlotte Eydon found the animal had a severe flea allergy and had lost much of its fur.
A vet who later examined the dog concluded it would was clearly suffering and the owner should have sought treatment for it.
The court was told that Rex was taken into the care of the RSPCA which has treated the animal and brought it back to health. The dog is now awaiting to be found a new home.
Magistrates adjourned sentencing Wilson until April 2.
