ABOUT 1,000 classic cars are booked to be on display at the KM Motoring Pageant on Saturday and Sunday, July 5-6, at the hop farm at Beltring, near Paddock Wood. Among them are cars with starry histories.
Eric Barfield, of Headcorn, near Maidstone, has owned his 1931 Nash Ambassador and 1932 Nash sedan since 1984.
Since buying them and signing up with Action Cars, an agency which provides cars as props, the classic vehicles have appeared in four series of Jeeves and Wooster as well as appearing alongside such stars as Tom Selleck, Joan Collins and Michael Douglas.
The 1930 Ambassador came along to last year’s Motoring pageant and picked up a "Best in Class" prize.
Mr Barfield has had an interest in classic cars all his life. He is a member of the oldest American Car Club in Britain, formed in 1962, the Classic American Auto Club.
Altogether Mr Barfield keeps five cars in Headcorn, the two Nash models, a production special sedan and a 1936 Chevy convertible - one of only 64 of its type made.
John Simmons from Dartford fell in love with a picture from a car importing firm in 1999. He went ahead and purchased the car on the strength of the image and now owns a 1957 Pink Cadillac.
Legendary cars in their own rights, this particular Cadillac spent the first 42 years of its life in Hollywood. The car was bought by John B Wackerman, a glass company owner, for his wife's 21st birthday and was kept in the family until their daughter no longer wanted it. The Hop Farm event line is on 01622 872068.
