A WOMAN in her nineties was frightened into handing over £140 for a rug she had never ordered by a doorstep swindler.

The con man called at her home in Brooke Avenue, Margate, at lunchtime on Monday and demanded money. Police say the victim was so scared she gave the cash to the man who ran off towards the town.

He is aged between 40 and 50 and of medium build. He was clean-shaven with untidy, dark brown hair. He has a round face and was wearing dark clothing and possibly a jumper.
