Two Kent radio station listeners have had a cracking start to the weekend thanks to tuning in for kmfm's £1,000 Friday competition.
Laura Kearney, of Willesborough, Ashford, entered the monthly contest and pocketed the cash jackpot today.
Following thousands of text and online entries, one listener is chosen at random and given a surprise phone call.
Rob Wills, kmfm presenter, made the call to Laura during Drivetime at 6pm.
A delighted Laura said: “I never win anything. We are hoping to extend our house and so this money will go towards that work.”
She sent two text entries and got a third entry for free and it was that entry that made her the winner. Hear the surprise call here.
The station plays the game at the end of every month promising some extra fun money for the month ahead.
But that was not the only surprise on tonight's show.
Listeners were asked to get in touch to say what they would do if they won the cash.
Alongside holiday dreams, credit card payments and plenty of other worthy reasons was a message from Teresa Smith from Medway.
Teresa messaged to say she would spend it on carpets for two bedrooms, the stairs and landing. She continued: "I have been walking on floorboards for 16 years as I'm a carer to my disabled hubby so funds have not been available for us.”
Among those listening was businessman Mark Lewis, of Fleet Luxury Print on the Medway City Estate.
He was so touched by what he heard that he called the radio station and offered to arrange carpets for Teresa.
Rob spoke to Mark live on air before tracking down Teresa and calling her with the surprise news. Hear the emotional call here.
Mark is now arranging for measurements to be taken and for the flooring to be installed.
The monthly £1,000 Friday will be back at the end of July but there are plenty of other chances to win thanks to kmfm by clicking here.
Prizes up for grabs include tickets for Bluewater’s new Hangloose experience, family tickets to Diggerland and even a speedboat tour with Red 2 Red.
