As Gillingham manager Mark Stimson decides who he wants to keep at Priestfield, Kent Online readers have been discussing the club's drop into the bottom tier of English league football on our Gills SpeakOut page.

So, can the Gills bounce straight back to League 1? Is their relegation a blessing in disguise that will allow a young manager to rebuild a side capable of returning the club to higher places?

Liam Taylor, from Sittingbourne, retains an optimistic outlook. He writes: "I honestly think they will win League 2 next season. There are teams like Notts County, Chester and Morecambe - we will beat them easy. I can't wait till August."

But that comment is exceptional in a depressing list of contributions from frustrated supporters.

Paul Young, from Corby, said: "The team is where it deserves to be. The fans, however, deserve so much more. The chairman, manager and players should be ashamed of themselves."

Dave Hudson, from Kent, thinks he knows where the culpability lies. He writes: "Down the slippery slope we go. Bottom line is manager and team not up to scrach, but can't blame them - they did their best. The person who employed the manager should take full blame. Mid table next season, relegation the one after."

Daniel Yeung, a Gills fan in exile in Swansea, thinks Stimson and the players are at fault. "The way we got relegated is unacceptable - six games in a row we have taken leads and not managed to increase or hold out. The blame lies with the players and more importantly the boss."

Gess Larini, from Gillingham, has this message for the manager: "I hope Gills players and staff don't have dogs because they can't hold on to leads! Either get Gills winning football matches or walk away."

But perhaps the most succinct comment comes from London's Arthur Singh. Having taken everything into consideration - the victories, the false dawns, the narrow defeats, the heavy defeats and finally the reality of another relegation - he sums it all up: "From my understanding, we're just not good enough!"
