Kent put on flood alert. Library pictures
It's been the wettest week since December and forecasters are expecting further downpours this week.
The county's been put on bad weather alert as scores of events across Kent were scrapped due to flooding and soggy conditions.
The deluge put the brakes on a charity bike ride in Medway and Swale this morning.
Organisers of the Wheels for Wisdom bike ride postponed the event in aid of the Friends of the Wisdom Hospice.
They decided to halt the event last night, after heavy rain and strong winds hit the county.
Dozens of riders had been expected to take part in the event which offered three different routes of 10, 25 or 45 miles.
Riders had been due to set off from the Royal Engineers Museum, in Prince Arthur Road, Brompton, at 8am.
Fundraising organisers said many parts of the routes were flooded yesterday, so the ride was put of amid safety concerns.
Caroline Ford from The Friends of The Wisdom Hospice, based in Rochester, said: "The safety of riders is our primary concern and by Saturday evening it became apparent that the adverse weather conditions could expose riders to unnecessary risks.
"It was a hard decision to make when so many people had signed up to take part and many months of planning and hard work had gone into making it a successful and profitable event.
"We would like to thank everyone for their support and look forward to seeing them when the event finally goes ahead."
As yet, the rescheduled date has not been announced, but all those who had signed up to take part in it will be contacted with the new details.
Meanwhile, the Met Office issued a weather warning for Kent and the rest of the south east.
Its website said today: "The public should be aware that this may lead to some local flooding given the recent wet conditions, and that north-easterly winds will exceed 50-60 mph in some locations, bringing the risk of falling trees."
The Environment Agency also issued a Flood Alert for the River Beult affecting areas of West Kent.
Towns and villages affected include Pluckley and Bethersden to Hempstead Lock at Yalding, including Smarden, Headcorn, Collier Street, Benover and The Lees.
A Flood Alert means there is a possibility of flooding and we should be prepared.
