Driver dies after car hits tree

A MAN died early today when his car hit a tree on the main A21 at Stonecrouch, midway between Lamberhurst and Flimwell.

The driver of the black Mini saloon was declared dead at the scene. He has not yet been identified.

Anyone with information about the accident, that happened just after midnight at a point 100 metres north of the junction with Rosemary Lane, is asked to contact PC Ball at Cranbrook police station on 01233 611055.

The coroner is being informed and an inquest will be held.

Meanwhile, rush-hour traffic on the A21 was subject to long delays this morning after a collision between a green Citroen Xsara and a white Volkswagen panel van.

The accident happened just before 7.30pm between Pembury and Kippings Cross, just to the east of Tunbridge Wells.

Police closed both carriageways and set up diversions as emergency services worked to clear the scene.
