Driver dies in Blue Bell Hill crash

A MAN was killed in a crash between a van and a car near the Bridgewood roundabout in Chatham. It is believed that a car collided with a white Mercedes van after pulling out of a slip-road on the Chatham bound carriageway of Blue Bell Hill.

About 10 police cars and several fire engines attended the scene and police quickly blocked off the road in the direction of Chatham. The traffic was bought to a complete standstill behind the crash before police diverted traffic.

Motorists travelling from Aylesford were stopped from joining the A229 from the Chatham Road and diverted back down Blue Bell Hill.

An eyewitness said traffic was "complete chaos" during the busy lunch-hour rush. Mary Stope, a resident from the area, said: "This road is an accident waiting to happen. I always fear for the safety of my friends and relatives when they drive this way. This is an unnecessary tragedy. A poor person has been killed. Who will be next?"

Police have not yet released details of the victim.
