A BUS driver was described by the emergency services as being "a bit shook up" after his double decker caught fire.

The incident happened on the A229 on Blue Bell Hill, between Chatham and Maidstone, shortly after 2pm on Tuesday.

The blaze started at the back of the Chatham-bound Arriva bus, giving the driver time to escape. He was not injured.

There were no passengers on board the vehicle at the time. Two fire crews from Medway tackled the blaze. The fire sent clouds of black smoke into the sky.
