Driver hurt after car overturns on motorway

A man was taken to hospital with chest injuries after the car he was driving rolled and landed on its roof.

Emergency crews were called to the M2 coastbound carriageway at 7.45am on New Year's Day.

The accident happened between the Chatham and Gillingham turn off.

The man, believed to be in his 30's, was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital for treatment.

Earlier 999 crews were called to Station Road, Rainham after a car crashed into the back of a parked van.

Police are seeking four people who are believed to have fled after the accident which took place at around 3am today.

Three other vehicles were also damaged after the force of the impact moved the van 10 metres in to another parked car.

Meanwhile joyriders are believed to have set fire to a car after they failed to drive it down an alleyway.

Medway firecrews were called to Shipwrights Avenue, Chatham, at 2am today where they found the limited edition Chrysler Voyager wedged in the entrance of an alley.

Fortunately nearby houses were not affected by the fire but it had begun to spread to nearby bushes.

Firefighters managed to put the fire out within 45 minutes of arriving at the scene.

The same crew dealt with another car fire in Gundulph Road, Chatham, at 8pm on New Year Eve.

It's believed the Volkswagen Polo was torched from the inside after thieves failed to start the car.
