A man is in hospital after he injured his leg trying to escape from police who had stopped him for allegedly running a red light.

Patrol officers attempted to stop a car in Brookfield Road, Ashford, at 2.15am on Saturday but the driver failed to obey their signal, a police spokesman said.

The spokesman added: "The vehicle moved off and collided with some roadside furniture near the Crusader pub.

"The driver got out of the vehicle and jumped a wall and ended up injuring his leg. He is in hospital."

A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and failing to stop when required by a police officer.
