A teenager left fighting for his life after a crash on the Snodland bypass has died, police confirmed today.

The accident happened at around 4.30am on Sunday morning on the Malling Road, just before the Snodland turn-off.

According to reports, the 18-year-old lost control of his car, crossed the central verge, rolled the vehicle several times and ended up with the front of it under a HGV lorry parked up in a lay-by.

Paramedics, police and firefighters from Strood and Larkfield, were so worried about his head injuries he was immediately lifted out of the car and taken to Maidstone hospital for emergency treatment.

He died there later.

Two other passengers were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The family of the teenager have been informed of his death and the coroner's office notified. His name has not yet been released.

The road was closed at the Malling Road roundabout at the junction with the A228 and reopened at 8.30am.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "The front of the car was wedged underneath the lorry.

"It had rolled several times and we would normally cut the injured person out of the vehicle.

"The police closed the road to carry out investigations."
