Driver killed in three-car crash

Firefighters had to use cutting gear to free a woman trapped in a fatal three-car crash.

One man was killed and a woman survivor was freed in the crash over the weekend at Smeeth.

Emergency services were called to the accident on the A20 outside the Blue and White Cafe at 10.24am on Saturday.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman: "We used hydraulic equipment to release the trapped woman.

"She was released and removed at 11.10am."

The dead man was one of the drivers and the woman, a second driver, was taken by ambulance to the Royal London Hospital suffering from serious leg injuries.

Firefighters stayed at the scene until just after 2pm in the clear-up operation.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
