Driver seriously hurt in three-vehicle crash

A MAN is in hospital in a serious condition after suffering multiple injuries in a crash on the A21 at Lamberhurst this morning. The accident happened at about 5.40am on the road leading to Kippings Cross roundabout. Two cars and an articulated lorry were involved.

The lorry driver from Rye was uninjured and the driver of a Peugeot 406 from Battle escaped serious injury thanks to his car's airbag inflating, but the driver of a Ford Sierra from Lewes was trapped by his legs in his vehicle for almost an hour and is thought to have also suffered spinal injuries.

Firemen from Tunbridge Wells, Hawkhurst and Wadhurst had to cut the roof off his car to free him. The road was closed until 8am and it took a further hour before the huge build-up of rush-hour traffic had cleared.
