A GREAT-grandmother has escaped prison after being caught with amphetamines and cannabis that she was relying on to help cook dinner.

Sixty-year-old Valerie Richardson of Southwood Road, Ramsgate, told police she was struggling to cope with Christmas and cooking dinner for 45.

She appeared at Canterbury Crown Court having admitted possessing the drugs just before Christmas last year.
