A YEAR ago Kerry Pethig’s life was torn apart when her husband and eldest child were killed by a drunk driver.

She was in court this week when Alan Oliver was jailed for nine years for causing death by dangerous driving.

Father-of-five Steve Pethig, 27, and his son Billy, seven, died after banned driver Oliver lost control on a bend on the A228 at Stoke, near Rochester, and smashed into their car.

Mr Pethig, a father of five, from Lodge Hill Lane, Chattenden, near Strood, had broken down at the accident black spot.

Maidstone Crown Court heard that Oliver had a drinking session before getting into his car.

In an exclusive interview with the Medway Messenger, Kerry, 29, said she was pleased with the sentence but would never stop missing Steve and Billy.

She said: “I don’t think things will ever get easier. I miss them more and more each day.”

Oliver, 26, from West Yorkshire, admitted two charges of causing death by dangerous driving shortly before his trial was due to start.
