Ebbsfleet manager Liam Daish has vowed to battle on in his attempts to attract new striking talent.
Ahead of Saturday’s visit of Mansfield to Stonebridge Road in Blue Square Premier, Fleet have only scored once in the past 11 games.
After being unable to agree a loan deal for Shrewsbury striker Nathan Elder last week, Daish has now been foiled in attempts to sign former Fleet striker Onome Sodje on loan from Barnsley and Ben Wright from Peterborough.
Daish said: "We have got together a list of who might be available and then gone to the clubs but it is tough.
"Some clubs don’t want to let players go, some of the wages that players are after have been out of our league, some didn’t want to come down to our level.
"Disappointingly, some players would rather kick about at their club, even though they might not be playing football on a Saturday.
"I was in for Onome but he’s gone to Oxford. If you have the choice between Oxford and Ebbsfleet at the moment you’re going to go to Oxford. I imagine he’ll be getting football there otherwise they wouldn’t have signed him.
"We also agreed a deal with Peterborough for Ben Wright but he didn’t want to come down to our level."
Daish added: "We were close to signing two players from the same Football League club this week but one of them didn’t want to come and the club didn’t want to let the other one go.
"You just have to keep going. It is difficult but I won’t give up. I will keep asking the questions."
Daish has doubts over Leon Crooks (groin strain), Jordan Collins (foot) and Clint Easton (hamstring) before the visit of the Stags.
