A man's body has been found next to an open coal fire at a house.

Friends discovered the 86-year-old at his home in West Cliff Road, Ramsgate, when they called in to check he was well following the recent cold weather.

The elderly man had suffered burns to his body.

Kent Police were called to the property at 9.20pm Wednesday and are now investigating.

Officials from Kent Fire and Rescue Service are assisting with the inquiry but the death is not being treated as suspicious.
