POLICE rescued an elderly man after reports that a body had been seen lying at the side of the railway line in Birchington.

They were called out by a passenger on a train who had seen the man lying by the track near Minnis Road.

Officers spent several hours searching for the man, who had fallen during an early morning walk.

He taken to the Queen Mother hospital at Margate for observation.
