A 75-year-old man has been seriously injured in an explosion at his home.

The blast happened in Heathside Avenue, Bexleyheath at about 9.55am on Saturday. The victim suffered serious burns to his hands and legs.

He was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich by ambulance. His condition is described as serious but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Firefighters from Bexley and Erith tackled the blaze.
