An elderly woman had to be cut free from a car after it crashed into a skip today.

The woman, in her 80s, was a passenger in a Ford Mondeo which crashed in Maidstone Road, Rainham.

She is not thought to have been seriously hurt in the incident, shortly before 3pm, but was given first aid at the scene by paramedics.

The male driver was able to free himself from the vehicle, but police closed the road to allow firefighters to cut the roof off the car to get the woman out.

A Medway Police spokesman said: "The man driving was able to get out of the car without assistance.

"He’s fine, but the woman was trapped in the vehicle by the collision.

"She was conscious and is not thought to have suffered serious injury."
